Wyoming Office of the Governor - Dave Freudenthal

Health Care Issues

“We all remain frustrated with the slow progress of the nation and this state in solving the difficult and painful problem of health care reform.  But frustration must not lead to hasty actions or abandonment of our efforts.  Again, let us agree to work together, knowing that our state cannot enjoy economic success unless we can provide quality and affordable health care to our citizens.”

--Governor Dave Freudenthal

Workforce Wellness

On May 3, 2006, Governor Freudenthal approved a $2 million investment in workplace wellness programs for state employees. Expanding Wyoming’s investment in its employees’ health can help reduce unnecessary use of medical services, absenteeism, on-the-job injuries and workers’ compensation costs.

As the largest employer in Wyoming, the state has both the opportunity and the responsibility to encourage employees to lead healthier lives for themselves and for the good of the entire healthcare system. The best means of controlling healthcare costs is to avoid claims altogether. Wellness promotion in the workplace is just one more way to encourage everyone to take charge of their own fitness and health, which in turn helps hold down healthcare costs for everyone.
