Governor Visits Wyoming National Guard in Kosovo

CHEYENNE, Wyo. –  Governor Matt Mead, First Lady Carol Mead and Wyoming’s Adjutant General, Major General Luke Reiner, traveled to Kosovo to visit Wyoming Army National Guard members serving in Kosovo and in Bosnia. They arrived in Kosovo Friday afternoon and left very early Sunday morning. The 24 Wyoming National Guard Soldiers provide aviation maintenance and deployed on September 22, 2011.

“These men and women committed to serve our country in Kosovo for a year,” Governor Mead said. “Carol and I are deeply grateful for their commitment to Wyoming and America and recognize their families’ sacrifice. We were honored to have the opportunity to visit these Guard members face to face and let them know Wyoming stands behind them.”

“I am very proud of this unit,” Major General Reiner said. “These Soldiers are representing Wyoming well and proving their military value to our state and country.”

The Soldiers are from Detachment 3, B Company, 777th Aviation. They are providing maintenance support for the 1st Battalion, 112th Aviation, from the North Dakota Army National Guard. The Wyoming guard members are from Cheyenne, Green River, Laramie, Powell, Sheridan, Wheatland, Torrington and from North Platte, Nebraska.

The 777th is part of the Wyoming Army National Guard’s most deployed unit, “Charlie Med.” The medical evacuation unit has deployed to Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Bosnia, and Kosovo among other places.
