Freudenthal: “We are here today, in part, to confirm that I will not be a candidate for Governor in 2010.”
Gov. Freudenthal said he wanted to step down and allow for fresh ideas, even though he continues to enjoy high popularity across the state.

Freudenthal: “I think that we all have our season. And unless something really irritates me, really bad, which has been known to happen, I think the right thing is to simply say, ‘I have had my season, we have had our time, and now it is (time) for someone else.’”
The Governor also admitted the demands of the job are great. Even having worked with three previous administrations, he has been surprised by those demands.

Freudenthal: “Being Governor – at the end of the day, is a job. And what you have to do is take a lot of advice from other people. A lot of the things that I thought I knew about this job, from being staff around it, it’s a lot different when you’re Governor than when you’re giving advice. I was really good at giving advice. I had a lot of wisdom when I was giving advice. When it becomes your decision, it is a little – a little different.”
The Governor said his experience in public service helped prepare him to be Governor but added there are other ways to gain experience.

Freudenthal: “It was to my benefit to have had exposure to the job. But I do not believe that that precludes someone else from doing a far better job than I did.”
