MAJOR STUDY SAYS WYOMING WIND FARMS ARE TOP RENEWABLE ENERGY OPTIONS FOR THE SOUTHWEST
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Wind-generated electricity produced in southern Wyoming is the most viable option for meeting the clean power demands of the rapidly growing desert Southwest, according to a major study released on July 29, 2008.
The study, undertaken by the London-based transmission and utility firm National Grid, is a comprehensive effort to examine renewable energy options for the southwestern U.S. including the states of Arizona, Nevada and southern California.
Gov. Dave Freudenthal described today’s announcement as a “milestone on Wyoming’s pathway to becoming a major provider of renewable wind energy to America.”
Freudenthal released the following statement:
“We now have a major study by National Grid that confirms that Wyoming wind farms are among the best renewable energy options for the American Southwest. With the Anschutz Corporation, through a subsidiary, taking on the role of developer for the TransWest Express transmission project, we are not just talking about another study on the shelf, but a real project on the ground. We have enjoyed working with National Grid and wish them well in their future endeavors and look forward to working with the Anschutz Corporation on this project. Anschutz has a long and successful tradition of resource development in Wyoming. This project will add to that tradition.”
