NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK IN WYOMING
WHEREAS, travel and tourism is at the heart of America’s economic and national security, and generates millions of jobs and billions in taxes, and is a vital resource in improving America’s image around the world; and
WHEREAS, travel and tourism is one of America’s largest service exports generating a trade surplus in excess of $8 billion. It is one of America’s largest employers, accounting for more than 7.5 million direct travel-generated jobs; and
WHEREAS, travel and tourism is one of America’s largest retail sales industries generating $740 billion in direct travel expenditures nationwide and generating $110 million in tax revenue for local, state, and federal governments; and
WHEREAS, travel and tourism is the second leading industry in the State of Wyoming contributing to $103 million in state and local tax revenues, $624 million in direct personal income, $2.5 billion in direct expenditures resulting in 29,950 full and part time jobs; and
WHEREAS, the travel and tourism industry in Wyoming is vital to our economic stability and growth and it contributes substantially to Wyoming’s cultural, social, and physical well being. The travel and tourism industry substantially enhances our personal growth, health, and education, while promoting intercultural understanding and appreciation of Wyoming’s history, geography, and culture. In recognition of the unique significance of the American travel industry in the lives of the citizens of Wyoming;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVE FREUDENTHAL, GOVERNOR, do hereby proclaim May 10-18, 2008, as
"NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK IN WYOMING”
in the State of Wyoming, and encourage people of Wyoming to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
