Wyoming Office of the Governor - Dave Freudenthal

ARMED FORCES DAY

WHEREAS, before the year 1950, the Uniformed Services each had their own recognition day; and

WHEREAS, in 1949, the United States Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson declared that these days of recognition would be combined into a single day, to be known as Armed Forces Day, to reflect the unification of the services under the Department of Defense; and

WHEREAS, the State of Wyoming is proud to host Active, Reserve and Guard units of all five of the uniformed services; and

WHEREAS, the men and women of Wyoming’s Active, Reserve and Guard Forces serve and respond whenever called upon to defend our State and Nation’s security at home and abroad; and

WHEREAS, our men and women in uniform put their lives at risk in locations foreign and domestic, placing the interests of the State of Wyoming and the United States of America above their own, seeking to secure freedom and liberty for oppressed peoples around the world; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that we devote one day each year to paying special tribute to those whose constancy and courage constitute one of the bulwarks guarding the freedom of this nation and the peace of the free world;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVE FREUDENTHAL, GOVERNOR, do hereby proclaim May 17, 2008 as observance of

“ARMED FORCES DAY”

in Wyoming.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Executive Seal of the Governor of Wyoming to be affixed this 12th day of May, 2008.
