ADOPTION MONTH
WHEREAS, during National Adoption Month, Wyoming recognizes the compassion of adoptive and foster families as we seek to raise awareness of the need for every child, regardless of physical, medical or emotional disabilities, age or race; and
WHEREAS, every child deserves a safe, loving, and permanent home; and
WHEREAS, adoptive families can help children learn character and values, the importance of giving back to their community, and the courage to realize their potential; and
WHEREAS, we recognize birth parents, who make the difficult decision to place their children with adoptive parents; and
WHEREAS, adopting a child in the Equality State is a great joy and also a great responsibility; and
WHEREAS, during the last year, the Wyoming Department of Family Services has completed approximately seventy (70) adoptions, and this accomplishment represents children who otherwise would have lingered in foster care, but instead now have a forever family; and
WHEREAS, the Wyoming Department of Family Services is committed to enhancing services that connect children with their kin prior to an adoption or termination of parental right; and
WHEREAS, the adoption process in our state remains a successful collaboration between social workers, the judiciary, legal community, the State Attorney General’s office, Wyoming adoption agencies, and other agencies and families willing to welcome children as members of their families; and
WHEREAS, throughout November, communities across the nation observe National Adoption Month to raise awareness and encourage citizens to become involved in the lives of these children and youth – as adoptive parents, volunteers or mentors; and
WHEREAS, we are committed to helping young people find the love, stability, and support a family can provide;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVE FREUDENTHAL, Governor of the State of Wyoming, do hereby proclaim November, 2009, as
ADOPTION MONTH
in Wyoming to honor adoptive and foster parents who have shown the depth and kindness of the of the human heart. Their love and dedication inspire the next generation to achieve their dreams and demonstrate the true spirit of our Nation.
