AMATEUR RADIO WEEK
WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission licenses Wyoming amateur radio operators to provide public and emergency communications, develop and maintain a pool of radio operators, and promote domestic and international goodwill; and
WHEREAS, Wyoming amateur radio operators are known throughout the state and nation for their support of youth education programs; and
WHEREAS, Wyoming amateur radio operators provide hundreds of hours of volunteer support to agencies such as the American Red Cross, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Weather Service, and the Salvation Army, as well as activities including city parades, and charity bike rides, running and walking events; and
WHEREAS, Wyoming amateur radio operators work closely with federal, state and local emergency service organizations to provide volunteer communication services during severe weather, natural disasters, communications and power outages, human disasters, accidents and attacks; and
WHEREAS, Wyoming is a part of the Rocky Mountain Division of the American Radio Relay League, along with Colorado, New Mexico and Utah; and
WHEREAS, Estes Park, Colorado will host HamCon Colorado 2009 from May 29-31, bringing together hundreds of amateur radio operators from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and other states for networking, training and education;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVE FREUDENTHAL, GOVERNOR, do hereby proclaim May 25-31, 2009 as
"AMATEUR RADIO WEEK”
in the State of Wyoming.
