CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION DAY


    WHEREAS, on the fifth day of May in 1862, a small band of Mexican soldiers defeated the French army three times its size at Puebla, marking an important milestone in the freedom of the Mexican people; and

    WHEREAS, this milestone is today the commemoration of Cinco de Mayo, the celebration of Hispanic freedom, liberty, culture, and the importance for citizens to recognize and pay tribute to the diversity that weaves together our communities; and

    WHEREAS, the “Cinco de Mayo – Hispanos Unidos’ Committee has organized the observance of Cinco de Mayo in an effort to highlight this historical event; and

    WHEREAS, Wyoming is proud of the historical and cultural contributions of the Hispanic people and joins in the celebration to pay tribute and generate greater understanding for the vital culture that has helped shape our great state.

    NOW THEREFORE, I, DAVE FREUDENTHAL, Governor of the State of Wyoming, do hereby proclaim the 5th of May, 2008 as

“WYOMING CELEBRATION OF “LA PATRIA DE MI CORAZÓN”
AND

“CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION DAY”

in Wyoming.

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Executive Seal of the Governor of Wyoming to be affixed this 23rd day of April, 2008.
