COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH
WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies were created as the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was signed into law; and
WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies have been promoting self-sufficiency for low-income families in every county in Wyoming for more than 36 years, and
WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies conduct numerous programs to meet the needs of poverty-level county residents, including Early Head Start, Head Start, housing, energy assistance, home rehabilitation and weatherization, job training and placement, financial counseling, health advocacy and education, emergency assistance and many other services, and
WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies are utilized and needed as major partners in all major federal initiatives to include TANF and SSA reform efforts; and
WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies, in partnership with elected officials, the private sector, and low-income citizens, continue to identify poverty conditions and find solutions;
NOW THEREFORE, I, DAVE FREUDENTHAL, Governor of the State of Wyoming, do hereby proclaim May 2008 as
COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH
in Wyoming in recognition of the hard work and dedication of the members of Wyoming’s Community Action Agencies.
