WOMEN AND GIRLS HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY

WHEREAS, Wyoming is a state in which 262,605 women and girls make their home; and

WHEREAS, one in four Americans living with HIV/AIDS are women; and

WHEREAS, an estimated 25% of people infected with HIV/AIDS do not know they have contracted the disease; and

WHEREAS, early detection and treatment of HIV/AIDS increases quality and longevity of life; and

WHEREAS, communities can improve girls’ and women’s overall quality of life by helping them to make behavioral changes in their lifestyles that can reduce the risk of infection and obtain the tools they need to make informed decisions about, and gain better access to, existing health care in their communities;

NOW THEREFORE, I, GOVERNOR DAVE FREUDENTHAL of the State of Wyoming do hereby proclaim March 10, 2010, to be

WOMEN AND GIRLS HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY

and urge everyone to take time this day to honor our daughters, sisters and mothers and the professionals, family members, and citizens who care for them. Our efforts can improve the lives of women and help pave the way for future generations.
