Wyoming Office of the Governor - Dave Freudenthal

To Wyoming Citizens Interested in Serving on a Board or Commission

Democracy by definition is government by the people. As Americans, democracy includes the right to vote, the right to elect those who officially lead the nation. You, the citizens of Wyoming, have granted me the opportunity to be in a position of leadership.

One of my responsibilities as Governor of the great state of Wyoming is to appoint Wyoming residents to significant boards, commissions, councils, and committees. Those appointed will serve on advisory boards, policy making boards and/or licensing boards. Boards are authorized by statute, by executive order, by federal law, or by the Wyoming Constitution.

Service on a board or commission helps to accomplish two goals. First, by volunteering your time and energy to the specific board, you give back to the State of Wyoming. Second, as a member of a board, you are in a position of leadership where your knowledge and opinions affect decisions that affect citizens statewide.

I consider the process of gubernatorial appointments to be a very serious matter. The work that these groups do requires qualified public servants. The mission of each board can be furthered only to the extent that the individual member is knowledgeable, is willing to carefully consider the issues faced by the board, and is dedicated to the board's cause.

From past experience, I can tell you it is truly an honor to be appointed to serve Wyoming as a member of a board or commission. I encourage you to carefully consider the opportunity to become involved at this level of government. I look forward to the continuation of selecting what we consider to be some of Wyoming's best to serve the Cowboy State.

If you have any questions about the appointment process or any particular board, please feel free to contact Patti Burns, Boards and Commissions, at (307) 777-7434, or via email at pburns@state.wy.us.

Best regards,

Dave Freudenthal
